Accessibility

Access and Inclusivity is at the heart of our work. We co-create and test our pieces with lots of different children including those with SEN, disabilities and neurodiversity. Speedwell performers and facilitators are skilled and sensitive and invite children to engage in the way that best works for them.

We have been working with Scope to ensure we are following best practice in every area of our offer and are meeting disabled children’s needs. We are proud to have recently been awarded the Scope Inclusive Activity Award.

Our touring pieces offer:

  • Integrated Makaton

  • Touch Tours

  • Pre-show Visual Story

  • Pre-show Audio Story

  • Scripts for BSL interpreters

  • Meet and Greet integrated into the show’s beginning.

  • Additional option to peek at the set and check in with performers beforehand

We work in mainstream and specialist SEN schools. Alongside all our school performances and workshops we offer short individual sensory and music sessions for children who struggle to access group performance

“Speedwell Dance created a safe and inclusive space where families could freely express themselves, create meaningful connections and experience a strong sense of community belonging. Rachel’s friendly demeanour and approachable attitude created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all. She encouraged children to engage in activities in any way they felt comfortable, without imposing any pressure. This was achieved by actively modelling creative movements and creating a safe space where everybody could move and play without judgement, including parents/carers.”
